Early Childhood Services is provided by a parent-run program. Daycare and nursery school services are also provided locally by private and non-profit organizations.

Public Schools in High River are part of the Foothills School Division #38 the administration office for which is located in High River.

High River has four public schools, including two elementary-level schools, a middle school and a high school. Highwood High School, opened in September 1996, is a state-of-the-art facility.

In addition, a broad special education program is accessible to students who are severely learning-disabled or have other learning or emotional problems. These are offered in High River as well as in adjacent communities. The large, centralized Foothills Composite High School at Okotoks, 20 minutes north of High River, provides a broad academic and vocational program, including a five-year academic occupational program for those experiencing problems with the regular junior-senior high school programs. The Separate School System currently operates the Holy Spirit Academy school (grades K-6) in High River. Students above this grade level may choose to attend Holy Trinity Academy in Okotoks.

Plans to construct a new Catholic school in High River have been made; however, a construction date has not as yet been determined. Advanced and Continuing Education educational programs are available locally through teleconferencing links between the High River Centennial Library and both the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), and the University of Calgary. The University of Calgary, SAIT as well as Mount Royal College are all located in Calgary, a less than one-hour drive from High River. High River Health Care:

The High River General Hospital and Nursing Home is a regional hospital that opened in July 1982. It has 50 beds for active treatment, 75 long-term care beds, a 24-hour paramedic service, and a total of 250 employees.

The Headwaters Health Authority, with its regional office located in High River, provides medical services for the town and the surrounding area, and is concerned with the health and wellbeing of the community. Programs include: Public Health Services, Community Care, Aids to Daily Living, Children's Services, Foothills Adult Day Support Program, Dental Health Program, Older Adult Health Promotion program, Speech Pathology Services, Volunteer Program.

Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is a partnership between the Alberta government and its municipalities. With the assistance of FCSS, communities design and deliver programs to promote well-being among individuals, families and the community at large.

The Foothills Advocacy in Motion (AIM) is a non-profit organization originally established in 1977 by an interested group of citizens determined to address the needs of handicapped/disabled persons residing in the Foothills area.
