High River has a wide range of recreational facilities. The Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex [telephone: 403-652-4041] features a swimming pool [ 25 metres], whirlpool, sauna and concession, as well as a curling rink and arena. The Highwood Golf & Country Club [telephone: 403-652-2402] is a highly regarded golf course with 27 challenging holes, a beautiful clubhouse and a pro shop. The Rio Vista Golf Course [telephone: 403-652-1443] is a 9-hole executive golf course with a clubhouse. The Agricultural Grounds has both indoor and outdoor arenas. The facility features rodeo grounds, riding, 4-H activities and roping. The Fitness Factory [telephone: 403-652-1400] has racquetball and squash courts, a weight room and fitness classes. The Highwood River is famous for its canoeing. The river has sections of rapids rated in the Class VI category. The river is also popular for swimming and fishing. High River's parks range from large natural areas to children's playgrounds. High River's location along the Highwood River and at the source of the Little Bow River, has enhanced its ability to provide several beautiful river bank areas. For example, the George Lane Memorial Park has 55 overnight padded campsites with firepits; a central complex housing washrooms and showers; a picnic shelter with cooking facilities; day picnic areas with B.B.Q.'s; a baseball diamond with bleachers; a well equipped children's playground; and, canoeing in the adjacent river. The park also has a band shell; a community reserve area for reunions; and 12 professional horseshoe pits. Birchwood Park has day picnic sites; a children's playground; a baseball diamond with bleachers; and public washrooms. Water Tower Park features day picnic areas and a children's playground. Little Bow Park has a picnic shelter with cooking facilities, [reservation required] and day picnic areas. The park also has 20 overflow campsites with firepits and toilets, with the Recplex located nearby. Emerson Lake, a 12 acre artificial lake, is continuously fed water which is constantly circulated. It is stocked with trout for fishing in both the summer and the winter seasons. The park has picnic sites and outdoor skating. Finally, High River boasts the Happy Trails Pathway, a pathway system which connects many of the town's attractive park areas.
